The Southeast Missourian's story about an accident near Commerce incorrectly reported in Monday's newspaper that Todd's Towing was involved in the accident. Todd's Towing only responded to the scene on Route E in Scott County to tow away the two wrecked vehicles, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A 12-year-old Oran girl suffered severe injuries Sunday evening after brakes failed on a 1974 Ford truck, which was being towed with a tow rope by a 1993 Chevrolet Geo, according to patrolman Todd Turlington, who worked the accident.

The girl, Amber Reynolds, was airlifted to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Pamela Reynolds, 37, who also was in the Ford, was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis with moderate injuries.

Turlington said the accident occurred when the brakes failed on the Ford truck. He said after the brakes failed, the truck passed the car and ended up hitting a tree.

The driver of the Geo was Glenn Winemiller, who was not injured. Turlington said that Winemiller watched as the truck passed him, causing him to go into a ditch.
