CAPE GIRARDEAU - St. Francis Medical Center will host benefit basketball and volleyball tournaments next month to help raise money for Thanksgiving meals for needy families this fall.
The "St. Francis Sports/Fun Night" will be held April 6 at the Cape Central Junior High School gym. Activities begin at 5:30 p.m.
Six men's basketball teams and six women's volleyball squads will compete in the tournament. The teams represent St. Francis Medical Center, Southeast Missouri Hospital, The Human Performance Center at St. Francis, KBSI-TV in Cape Girardeau, and WSIL-TV in Marion, Ill.
Competition in both tournaments will take place simultaneously. Refreshments will be available and Kool K from KBSI will be on hand to entertain children.
Spectator admission to the event, sponsored by the St. Francis Employee Social Committee, is $1. Proceeds will be used by the committee to help fund its annual Thanksgiving Baskets Program, which provides holiday meals to dozens of area needy individuals and families.
