Today is the final day of the year to pay personal and real estate taxes, and many people are doing it in person.
Long lines have formed periodically this week at the county offices, but there is a more efficient was to pay, according to Cape Girardeau County Collector Diane Diebold: U.S. mail. She said if the payment is postmarked today, no late fee will be applied.
After-hours collection boxes are on the Lorimier Street side of the Common Pleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau and near the south parking lot of the county administration building, 1 Barton Square in Jackson. Collectors' offices open at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Scott County taxes can be paid at the Scott County Courthouse, 131 S. Winchester, Benton, Mo.; Perry County taxes can be paid in person at the administration building, 321 N. Main St., Perryville, Mo., at the inside counter or at a drive-up window. Perry County's night deposit is next to the drive-up window.
In Scott and Perry counties, taxes can be paid online at www.scottcountymo.com and www.perrycountymo.us.
