NEW MADRID -- Joe Carraway, a rice and grain merchant with Louis Dreyfus Corporation, New Madrid, will participate in the Rice Leadership Development Program.

Carraway is one of six participants selected from throughout the rice belt to attend the program, which is being sponsored by a grant from the Du Pont Agricultural Products Department, to train people to take on more active leadership roles in the rice industry.

Carraway, 39, has a master's degree in aquatic biology/chemistry from Southwest Texas State. He has worked for Dreyfus since 1987. Prior to that he worked with Riviana Foods in Carlisle, Ark.

Others selected for the program include growers Bert Greenwalt, of Hazen, Ark.; Michael Hofmann, Valley Home, Calif.; John King III, Helena, Ark.; Hine Unkel, Kinder, La.; and David V. Ruiten, Robbins, Calif.
