A Thursday night fire at 523 S. Minnesota Ave. in Cape Girardeau was determined to be accidental, according to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.

Crews responded to the home at about 11:45 p.m. where they observed heavy smoke and fire coming out the back of the structure. All residents of the home were outside upon the fire department's arrival and no one was injured.

Cape Girardeau requested mutual aid from Scott City, Jackson and East Cape Girardeau County Fire Protection District. Additional off-duty Cape Girardeau Fire Department personnel were called in to staff the reserve apparatus.

Although the department released no estimated dollar loss, it reported the home has extensive damage.
