Three Rivers College cuts tuition for veterans

Three Rivers College is reducing the cost for many veterans and their family members to attend the college. The college's board of trustees recently approved altering the college's tuition policy to charge "in-district" tuition to all veterans, their spouses and children.

"Our veterans and their families have been willing to make unfathomable sacrifices for our country, and it's only right that we do our best to support them when they return home," said Wesley Payne, president of Three Rivers College. "This new program will ensure that all of our region's veterans will have the most affordable access to higher education that we can give them."

In-district tuition is the lower rate charged to residents of the college's four-county taxing district. The revised policy will allow all veterans and their families to receive the lowest possible tuition rate regardless of location.

"As a veteran, I really appreciate all the support that Three Rivers gives its student veterans, especially in handling the more complicated paperwork," said Raymond Richardson, a former Marine and a freshman in the general studies program at Three Rivers. "This should help even more of our student veterans."

The tuition reduction is one of several steps Three Rivers has taken to make going to college easier for area veterans, such as a dedicated financial aid adviser. Three Rivers has been named a military-friendly school by Victory Media for the its efforts to help veterans obtain higher education.
