Three community leaders have been appointed as new members of the United Way of Southeast Missouri Board of Directors.
Judy Aslin was chosen as the new board representative for SoutheastHEALTH; Jack Geissinger was chosen as the new Procter & Gamble representative; and Shelly Moore was selected for her influence as a Cape Girardeau City Council member and the connections she holds in the community.
Nancy Jernigan, the organization's executive director, said the board is made up of a combination of key executives from different sectors of the community who support the United Way's campaigns. It also has representation from community members with expertise in the issues the organization is trying to affect in the area.
"We leave some slots open for people who come into the community that we think could benefit our cause," Jernigan said. " ... Each one is unique in what they bring to the table."
Aslin is vice president and chief nursing officer of SoutheastHEALTH. She has worked at Southeast for the past 31 years and is noted for opening the hospital's Cancer Center and originally serving as its executive director. Aslin previously served as the administrator of Home Care Services and worked to develop the first local Medicare-certified hospice program in 1993.
Geissinger recently was given the position of plant manager for the Family Care Plant at Procter & Gamble. He has worked for the company for 31 years all around the nation, including facilities in Jackson, Tennessee; Atlanta; and, most recently, Kansas City, Kansas, among others. Geissinger has supported the United Way and the work it does in every community in which he has worked.
Moore, a Sikeston, Missouri, native, has lived in Cape Girardeau for the past 45 years. She is co-founder of Cape Leaders Alliance Partnership that works to build community and foster empowerment among residents. Moore is a licensed Realtor for Ashland Century 21 Realty and represents Ward 2 on the Cape Girardeau City Council. She also is a contemporary gospel recording artist.
Aslin and Moore were elected during the Oct. 23 board meeting and Geissinger on Dec. 4. The three began working immediately after their installments. All members can serve three, three-year terms if they choose.
