JEFFERSON CITY -- Cory Aufdenberg, Brandon Petzoldt and Natalie Ruesler of Jackson and 27 other high school sophomores from across Missouri recently were chosen to participate in the 13th class of the Missouri Agribusiness Academy. Two independent committees made up of agricultural leaders selected the students based on written applications and oral interviews. To be eligible, academy members must be high school sophomores, come from a farm family, or be active in 4-H or FFA.

The students' summer activities will take them to the St. Louis area June I I -15 to visit various agricultural companies and meet with officials in government, education, and agriculture.

"The academy's activities are designed to increase the students' knowledge of the opportunities available in the agriculture industry, which will be critical as they set future education and career goals," said John L. Saunders, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. "It also enhances their personal growth and development, building self-confidence and strong communication skills."

The department sponsors the students' expenses, except for personal spending and travel costs to Jefferson City. The academy is funded through the Market Development Division.
