The patrol said Statler swerved right to avoid the truck, left the roadway and struck an embankment. He was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau along with Elmer Younger, 50, and David Tropf, 35, passengers in Statler's vehicle.

None of the injured men were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.

A spokesperson at St. Francis medical Center said Tropf was undergoing surgery Wednesday night and that Statler and Younger were in stable condition.
