Three people are in custody after Cape Girardeau police responded to a burglary call at Arena Park Sunday evening.
Two are juveniles from Cape Girardeau; the third, an adult, is from Jackson. Charges are pending. Police said the juveniles face charges of attempted burglary, burglary, stealing and resisting arrest. The adult faces charges of property damage, burglary and resisting arrest.
Sgt. Rick Schmidt said an employee of Spartech called in a report of a burglary in progress at a storage shed near ballfield No. 7. The employee reported that the suspects were swinging something at the door, trying to get in.
The call came in at about 6:30 p.m., during a shift change, Schmidt said, so more officers were able to respond to the call.
When officers arrived, the suspects ran. They were caught after a short chase, Schmidt said.
Schmidt said the three tried but failed to get into two storage sheds. However, they did enter two concession stands and take some items. He said there was no evidence they took money.
Schmidt said the department is investigating whether Sunday's incident is connected to previous robberies and that more arrests are expected.
