Three Jackson residents were arrested on drug charges in two separate investigations, one in which more than 100 grams of marijuana were found.
Thomas A. Koehler II, 32, of 723 August St., and Donnie Sanford, 29, of 712 August St., were arrested Wednesday by Jackson police.
Officers went to Koehler's home late Tuesday night to find a witness Cape Girardeau police were looking for in connection with a shooting, according to a probable cause statement.
When Koehler opened his front door, officers smelled burnt marijuana from inside the home. The officers obtained a search warrant and went through the home.
Inside the home, police found a large bag containing suspected marijuana weighing 104 grams, according to the statement.
Three small bags of suspected marijuana, measuring scales, rolling papers and several unidentified prescription pills were also found, the statement said.
Both Koehler and Sanford were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor unlawful transaction with a child.
The unlawful transaction with a child charge was filed because a child had been in the home at the time, a Jackson Police Department news release stated.
A $10,000 cash-only bond was issued for both defendants, according to court records.
Cape Girardeau police Cpl. Ike Hammonds could not provide any information on what shooting Jackson police were investigating.
In an unrelated case, Christina Young, 26, of Jackson, was charged Thursday with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jackson officers found the drugs Feb. 2 while executing a search warrant for Young's home, near Main and Tracy streets, according to the news release.
