Three arrested in downtown Cape after officer hears shots fired

Three people were arrested just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday after a Cape Girardeau police officer was breaking up a fight in the Hutson's Fine Furniture store parking lot.

The officer stayed to make sure the fight was broken up and heard gunshots, according to Sgt. Rick Schmidt. Shortly after the incident, after seeing a vehicle flee the scene, officers made a felony car stop on Spanish Street.

As they were taking the third person traveling in the vehicle into custody, the same officers received a call of a small revolver found on the ground at 122 S. Spanish St.

Schmidt said the three were in custody and being questioned about 8:45 p.m.
