Thousands attend opening of Illinois Holocaust museum

SKOKIE, Ill. -- Thousands of people attended the opening of a new Holocaust museum in suburban Chicago, with videotaped remarks by President Obama kicking off the event.

Obama said that when school children visit the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie, they'll learn there is no greater obligation than to confront acts of inhumanity.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn also spoke at the Sunday opening of the $45 million, 65,000-square-foot facility. Former president Bill Clinton gave the keynote speech.

The new museum is considered the largest of its kind in the Midwest. It houses more than 2,000 Holocaust survivor testimonies.
