Kristi Thompson of Cape Girardeau will attend the National Young Leaders Conference today through Sunday.
She will be among 350 students attending the conference in Washington, D.C. Students will interact with leaders and newsmak~ers from the three branches of government, the media and the diplomatic corps.
Thompson attends Cape Girardeau Central High School, where she will be a senior in the fall.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Chamber Choir, A honor roll and Patriotic Club. She plays tennis and runs track and has been named to Missouri Ambassadors of Music and Who's Who Among American High School Students.
Thompson will also attend the National Scholars Academy at the University of Iowa July 18-23.
She will participate in a project called "Quest for Human Destiny: From Eden to `2000.'" Students will examine works of literature that revolve around quests. This is the second year for the recognition program.
