Name and cause released in fatal Jackson fire

Cape Girardeau County and Jackson authorities released today the name of a woman killed in an apartment fire Monday, as well as the cause of the fire. Fire personnel say the blaze that killed the woman by smoke inhalation before burning out was caused by careless smoking.Click here for more on this story.

Two women died in unnatural ways in two Bootheel counties over the weekend.A Butler County woman appears to have drowned in a drainage ditch leading into the Black River after a late night walk, according to a report in the Daily American Republic newspaper.In Pemiscot County a woman died after she left her vehicle on foot when it was stranded during a weekend snowstorm, the Daily Dunklin Democrat reported today.
