Man burned, dog killed in house fire

A house fire in Kennett, Mo., took a devastating toll this weekend, one that authorities say could have been prevented with a smoke detector, and if the back door of the mobile home hadn't been padlocked.

The fire is one of three in the past few weeks where the same conditions led to a resident of the trailer being burned. In this case, a man was badly injured and a dog was killed.

Social Security rules for teachers won't change, for now

Back in November we told you about new rules for how public school workers pay into Social Security, after a federal ruling that stated those workers should start paying into the system.

But now the effect of that ruling won't be felt so quickly. Schools did have until July 1 to determine who would have to start paying into the system. Now the state has unitl July 1, 2010 to resolve the issue.

Fire hits Cape Girardeau home

A fire struck a Cape Girardeau home Monday night, rendering the structure unusable. The fire happened on Cape Rock Drive and is the latest in a string of recent fires. However, authorities haven't said the fire is suspicious.

Is my satellite ready for the Big Switch?

Last night KFVS12 in Cape Girardeau conducted a test to see if TV sets of its viewers were ready for the switchover to digital coming next month. Many satellite users, who thought they'd be ready by being a satellite subscriber, got a message saying their TVs weren't compatible.
