The area holiday tradition is renewed —the annual Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament kicked off today at the Show Me Center, with games between Scott County Central and Delta, Woodland and Notre Dame and Jackson and Chaffee already complete.

Games continue into the night tonight and resume Saturday.

Sikeston robbery case becomes homicide

Earlier this month, Sikeston police were called to the scene of a strong arm robbery in which two people were pistol whipped, requiring hospitalization. Now what was once just a robbery has become a homicide investigation after one of the victims died on Christmas day.

Kennett woman badly burned in mobile home fire

Last weekend a fire badly burned a woman in her mobile home in Kennett, Mo., which touched off an inspection that found a park full of mobile homes without smoke detectors.

Authorities think two factors may have made the fire more damaging to the woman — a padlock on the outside of one of the home's doors and the absence of a smoke detector inside.
