Most area roads clear, some slickness remains

The ice that covered Cape Girardeau and the surrounding area Tuesday morning has cleared up, for the most part, making travel along major routes safe. This morning wasn't very safe, though, as police reported accidents around the area from the ice that coated roads and other surfaces before and during the morning commute.

This afternoon secondary roads and sidewalks are still causing danger for drivers and pedestrians around the area, even as temperatures climb above freezing. Click here to read more about the wintry weather situation in Southeast Missouri.

The girls basketball game between Saxony-Lutheran and Woodland at 4 p.m. at the Show Me Center was canceled due to weather.

A major Interstate 70 pile-up near St. Louis has left at least one person dead, but authorities are unsure at this time if the weather is to blame.

St. Louis company acquires local trucking business

A St. Louis company has purchased part of a local trucking company that ceased operations last week. Elfrink Transportation actually stopped its work on Dec. 17, leaving an unknown number of workers there without a job. Some will continue working for the St. Louis company that purchased part of the Elfrink business.

Ameren sued, again, over Taum Sauk

Ameren is being sued again for what happened three years ago when the Taum Sauk reservoir on Profitt Mountain broke, sending a wall of water down into Johnson's Shut-ins and other scenic areas of the Missouri Ozarks.

The Army Corps of Engineers now claims that the aftermath of the disaster is still affecting Clearwater Lake and its natural resources.
