In a sleepy little town like Benton, the county seat of Scott County, you don't see things like this often — a man and woman perpetrating an armed robbery on a convenience store just a short distance away from a building full of sheriff's deputies.

They got some money, but they didn't get far. Their car was immobilized on Interstate 55 near Perryville. We reported on the robbery this morning, but since then more details have been released, including the names and photos of the man and woman suspected of robbing the convenience store.

This morning the National Weather Service said that Southeast Missouri could still expect some freezing rain this afternoon, though the chance of such an event is only about 20 percent in Cape Girardeau.

4-year-old mauled by dog in Sikeston

We've had a lot of news about dogs lately — from the touching story of Tripod to the poisoning of a dog in Cape Girardeau. And don't forget the poll we had a report on today about pet owners talking to their animals.

But there's another sad note in dog-related news this week. The Standard Democrat newspaper in Sikeston reports that a 4-year-old there was mauled by a bulldog over the weekend.
