THEBES, Ill. -- A 2-year-old Thebes boy was injured Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a car being backed from a parking space.
The Illinois State Police said Marcus McFarland was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau with "major injuries."
A spokesperson at the hospital said the boy was in serious condition late Wednesday night.
Police said Kristie D. Stevenson, 16, of Thebes, was backing her vehicle out of a parking stall at the Thebes Housing Project when the child walked into the car's path. The accident occurred at 4:25 p.m.
