CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Southeast Missouri State University Theatre production of "Bits of the Bard: Shakespeare's Ladies" has been extended.
The play, directed by Ellen Seyer and compiled by Dennis C. Seyer, was originally scheduled to be performed Feb. 20-23. Play dates that have been added are Feb. 27, 28 and March 1 and 2.
The production is a compilation of excerpts from several of Shakespeare's classics. "Bits of the Bard" focuses on the roles of women in the plays of Shakespeare, and points out their strengths, weaknesses and their importance to the plot, said to Cheryl Yount, University Theater publicist.
It includes scenes from such classics as "Richard III," "The Taming of the Shrew," "Romeo and Juliet" and others. Musical interpretations, such as "Maria," "One Hand, One Heart," "Somewhere" and Cole Porter's "So In Love" are also presented.
All shows will be in the Lab Theater, Grauel Building, room 104 on the campus. Curtain time is 8 each night.
Tickets for the production are available at the door or in advance by calling the University Theater box office at 651-2265 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Tickets are $4; $3 for students, faculty, staff and senior citizens.
"Bits of the Bard" is part of the University Theater's semester-long Shakespeare Festival.
