Participants of The Race of the Century 2016 will make an overnight stop in Cape Girardeau. An event is planned from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 14.

At the event, antique cars and vintage motorcycles will be on display for guests to enjoy.

Lonnie Isam, owner of Jurassic Racing in Sturgis, South Dakota, is the founder of the Motorcycle Cannonball Run and is promoting this historical transcontinental race across America.

Jason Sims, The director of operations for the historic event said the bikes in the race pre-date 1916.

The cross-country race will include 95 contestants from 25 states, four continents and nine countries, all competing in the race. Their profiles can be viewed at motorcyclecannonball.com/rider-profiles. The race will begin Saturday in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and will end on Sept. 25 in Carlsbad, California, with a total of 3,304 miles driven.

Local event planning community leader Danny Essner encourages everyone to come out and enjoy this family-oriented event.
