Television viewers who were used to tuning in to "The New Price Is Right" on KFVS 12 each week night at 6:30 may have noticed that the program is no longer broadcast. According to KFVS, the company that distributed the show decided to cancel production.

Most programs seen on broadcast television stations come from one of several sources: their affiliated network (in this case CBS,) local sources, or syndicated material. "The New Price Is Right" was a syndicated program distributed by Paramount Domestic Television.

"Locally, 'Price Is Right' did pretty well," said Dean Leipsner, operations manager for KFVS. "But syndicated shows are negotiated differently all over the country and apparently the national performance of "Price" wasn't acceptable to Paramount. Essentially, we had no control over their decision to cancel."

When KFVS 12 learned of Paramount's decision to cancel "Price" it decided on a proven winner to air in the 6:30 p.m. time period.

"`Night Court' was a very popular program when it ran on KFVS at 10:35 p.m.," Leipsner said. "We know the Heartland enjoys the show so we're pleased to be able to air it at 6:30."

Fans of "The Price Is Right" program can still watch a full hour of the show weekday mornings at 10 on KFVS 12. "This is the CBS version of the show," stated Leipsner, "and 'Price' fans can feel secure that CBS is quite pleased with its performance.'

KFVS 12 is the CBS Television Network affiliate in the local market and is owned by the AFLAC Broadcast Group.
