After six years of searching, federal authorities arrested a fugitive Texas drug dealer in Dunklin County, the United States Marshals Service said.

Miguel Angel Rivera-Silva, 29, had been indicted by a grand jury for failing to appear in U.S. District Court in Brownsville, Texas. He faces charges of conspiracy to possess and distribute 362 pounds of marijuana, among other drug charges.

But when Rivera-Silva was free on bond in 1994, he fled as jury selection started, the marshals service said.

In May, federal marshals located Rivera-Silva in Harlingen, Texas. But a violent storm prevented an arrest and allowed the suspect to escape, the marshals service said.

Rivera-Silva had been living in Clarkton, Mo., for several weeks before his arrest on Wednesday. He had reportedly been working as a farm hand and mechanic.

About 8:30 p.m., several law enforcement officers entered a trailer park where Rivera-Silva had been living. He was found working on a car beside a trailer. He ran when officers identified themselves, but stopped and surrendered after a brief foot chase.

The suspect made an initial court appearance before a federal magistrate judge in Cape Girardeau on Thursday.
