The Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Missouri is planning a training session for volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of families who has someone terminally ill in their care.
The training session consists of two Saturday sessions on July 8 and 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Parish Hall, Stoddard St., Sikeston, Mo. 63801. Some car pooling will be available.
Volunteers are trained to serve as a special part of the VNA Hospice Team by providing those extra direct services of companionship and errands or indirect services in the office. All volunteers help raise the quality of life for the families. Volunteers are trained so they fully understand the services and will be comfortable in whatever areas they choose to assist. A commitment is made only at the end of the training. Assignments are mutually arranged according to geographic locations. There is no training fee, but attendance at both sessions is required. A certificate will be presented to each participate at the end of the final session.
Hospice is a special kind of care for patients and their families. It focuses on trying to enhance their lives by creating quality care and adding that extra touch that brings joy into the lives of the family. Volunteers most frequently say, "I find I receive far more than I give." Please consider joining VNA Hospices Volunteers by calling Linda Biggs at 1-800286-5892 or 1-573-8885892 (Ext. 201) for additional information or to register for the classes.
