KENNETT -- Tommy Mobley and Robert Cude drove a truck to the Bootheel this past weekend to sell produce. Sunday, Cude was in a hospital in Memphis in serious condition and Mobley was in jail in Tennessee charged with shooting Cude.

Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder said the pair sold watermelons and tomatoes out of the back of a truck on rural roads. At 11:20 p.m. Saturday, the Sheriff's Department took a call from residents of Rives, Mo., who said Cude came to their door and said he had been shot in the stomach.

The deputies found Cude, 35, of Counce, Tenn., lying on the sidewalk in front of the residents' home. They put out a bulletin for Mobley of Tupelo, Miss., and the Tennessee Highway Patrol arrested him.

The Dunklin County prosecuting attorney has charged Mobley with first degree assault, armed criminal action and felony stealing with bond set at $250,000. Missouri is seeking Mobley's extradition, Holder said.

He said the two "were smoking and drinking" together before the shooting. He said Mobley drove off in Cude's truck, resulting in the stealing charge.

Cude was listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
