SIKESTON, Mo. -- Ten teenagers were arrested by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety after the assault of a man last week.
The department received a call at 5:13 p.m. Wednesday reporting a fight between youths and a man.
Upon arriving, officers found a 28-year-old man who lived in the area who said he was assaulted by a group of 10 to 12 young men after telling them to not climb on the GED school building on Greer Avenue, said police Capt. Bill Mygatt.
One of the teens reportedly began the assault by striking the victim with a stick, "then all of them jumped in and joined the assault," Mygatt said.
"He's got a laundry list of injuries," Mygatt said, that included knots on the victim's head and cuts and abrasions on several places on his body.
The group reportedly fled after the attack, but officers "located them pretty quickly," Mygatt said.
Eight of the minors from 12 to 16 years old were charged with second-degree assault. The oldest two teens, age 17 and 18, were charged with possession of a controlled substance.
"Both of them were found to have nothing to do with the assault but had a little weed on them," Mygatt said.
