ANNA, Ill. -- -- Ten people were injured, at 5:45 a.m., Saturday when the driver of the van they were riding in fell asleep at the wheel on Interstate 57, Illinois State Police said.

Anton Burl, 36, of Little Rock, Ark., lost control of his vehicle as he was driving southbound on I-57 in Union County, Ill., State Police said.

The van went off the west side of the road and struck a row of trees, police said.

Injured were Burl, who was admitted to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau and was in the intensive-care unit; Derida Nelson, 14, Darrell Nelson, 36, and Jearline Nelson, 39, who were admitted to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau; Demetria Nelson, 19, who was transferred to the St. Louis University Hospital; and Latra Nelson, 10.

Four other children, whose names were not released, were treated and released from Union County Hospital in Anna.

All passengers in the van were from Little Rock.
