Ten Senior Girl Scouts will receive the Gold Award on June 5 at the Centenary Methodist Church. The Gold Award is the highest recognition given to a Girl Scout.
To achieve this honor, girls are required to achieve the leadership award, career exploration pin, give service, earn at least four interest patches and complete the Senior Girl Scout Challenge. Each girl also designed and carried out her own Gold Award project.
Also to be honored at the ceremony are 31 graduating senior Girl Scouts; 27 Cadette Girl Scouts will receive the Silver Award, which is the second highest award in Girl Scouting.
Five of the girls receiving the Gold Award are from Troop 22. They are Kathryn Canupp, Sabrina Gibbar, Heather Meyer, Carrie Beth Smith and Angela Suhre. Suzanne Smith and Judy Canupp are leaders.
Kathryn Canupp, daughter of Terry and Judy Canupp, is a junior at Cape Central High School. She is a member of the swim team and is a certified lifeguard. She is also a member of Young Life and is active in her church youth group. After graduating, she would like to go to college and major in marine biology.
Sabrina Marie Gibbar, daughter of Thomas and Helen Gibbar, is active in Red Dagger, the Girardot staff, was in the cast of "The Sound of Music", and is a member of Cape Central Color Guard.
Heather Ellyne Meyer, daughter of Thomas and Mary Meyer, is a junior at Notre Dame High School. For three years she has participated in French Club and is a drama crew member. She is active in her church youth group.
Carrie Beth Smith, daughter of Steven and Suzanne Smith, attends Cape Central High School where she is active in Student Council, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, and is named in Who's Who Among American High School Students. She received the "I Dare You Award," and was selected to attend a national Girl Scout event in Oklahoma this summer. She is also active in her church youth group. After graduation from high school in 1995, she hopes to attend a university and major in communications or medicine.
Angela Suhre, daughter of Bill and Lynn Suhre, is a junior at Cape Central High School. She is an active member of Spanish Club, Student Council, Red Dagger and National Honor Society. She was named in Who's Who Among American High School Students. She works as a certified lifeguard at the Cape Pool. She is active in her church youth group. When she attends a university, she plans to pursue career in dentistry.
Angela Wilson is the daughter of Chuck and Lisa Wilson. She is a junior at Cape Central High School where she is active as a captain of the soccer/wrestling cheerleading squad, writes poetry and has been named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. After graduating in 1995, she plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
Sara Scheper, daughter of Gary and Barbara Scheper, is a 12-year member of troop 113 in Jackson. Sara is a senior at Jackson High School where she is a member of National Honor Society, Hi Step, SADD, Pep Club, Spanish Club, J Club, Future Teachers of American and is an A Honor Roll student. She attended Missouri Girls State and Southeast Missouri Teen Institute. She plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in education.
Lynnette Roberts, daughter of Margie Roberts and the late Curtis Roberts, is a senior at Oak Ridge High School. Her activities include: Business Club, Pep Club, FHA, Science Club, SADD, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Band, and New Salem United Methodist Youth group. She has been in Girl Scouts for 11 years. Sally Strictland is leader of her troop 44.
Sally Ann Wibbenmeyer, daughter of Michael and Cynthia Wibbenmeyer, is a member of Girl Scout Troop 44, Oak Ridge. She is a junior at Oak Ridge High School where she is co-captain of cheerleading, president of National Honor Society, president of Science Club, member of Student Council, FHA, Drum Majorette and Band. She is currently directing a children's choir at New Salem United Methodist Church.
Amber Henson, not pictured, of Fredericktown, will also be receiving receiving the Gold Award.
