The Telephone Pioneers of America -- one of the largest volunteer organizations in the United States -- will hold its annual assembly in Cape Girardeau May 13-15.

The assembly will be held at the Holiday Inn Convention Center. More than 300 members of the George F. Durant chapter of the organization are expected to attend.

The organization, which was founded in 1912, has more than 11,000 members in the state of Missouri, and about 820,000 members in the U.S. and Canada.

The Pioneers are retired employees of sponsoring companies of the Southwestern Bell Corporation, AT&T and their subsidiaries. The organization's purpose is to promote activities and respond to community needs and problems.

Horace Wilkins, Southwestern Bell president for Missouri, is scheduled to speak at the Life Member luncheon.
