Telemarketers fined $40,000 for violating no-call law

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Seven businesses are to pay a total of $40,000 in fines for violating Missouri's no-call list, the attorney general's office said.

Along with the fines, court orders will require the businesses to obtain copies of the state's no-call list and follow it in the future, Attorney General Jay Nixon said Friday.

Missouri's telemarketing blacklist, which took effect July 1, allows fines up to $5,000 for each call made by certain telemarketers to a number listed as off limits. Some telemarketers are exempt.

Krane Products of Boca Raton, Fla., was fined $10,000 for making calls to sell septic tank systems, Nixon said.

The other six telemarketers each were fined $5,000. They include:

American Building Contractors Inc. of St. Louis for calls about general contracting services.

Dona McGlynn of Marion, Ill., for calls about Herbalife products.

New Image Home Improvements Inc. of Indianapolis for calls about home improvement services.

St. Clair Corp. of St. Louis for calls about home building components, such as windows and siding.

Voice Power Telecommunications Inc. of Austin, Texas, for calls about telecommunications services.

WRV Inc. of Monett for calls about water purification systems.
