JACKSON, Mo. -- Two teen-age girls attempting to find a way out of school Wednesday morning landed in the Cape Girardeau County Juvenile Detention Center instead, police said.
Two girls, ages 13 and 14, were referred to juvenile authorities for making a false police report.
Jackson police responded to a reported abduction at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Jackson Junior High School. A group of parents touring the Junior High School first heard the report and contacted school authorities who then phoned the police, said Patrolman Rick Whitaker of the police department.
The girls said that two men had attempted to abduct them and had another girl tied up in the back of a Jeep. After interviewing students and talking to the girls, police discovered that the girls were only trying to find an excuse for skipping school, Whitaker said.
