Wall, a former teacher, was born in 1902, graduated from DeSoto, Mo., High School in 1921 and obtained a teaching certificate from what was then Southeast Missouri State Teachers College. She began her teaching career in a small, one-room school house located in Fertile, Mo., near Washington State Park.

Wall was widowed at the age of 44 with four children. She enhanced her children's education by using a blackboard in the kitchen, and continued class around the dining room table. Many teachers from the DeSoto School System rented rooms at Wall's home. She thrived on discussing the teaching profession and school system issues with these people.

Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in the teacher education program, specializing in either elementary or secondary education. The recipient must have at least a 2.8 grade point average, demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Jefferson County.
