JACKSON -- The first general Jackson Community Teachers Association meeting was held at the junior high on Oct. 6. The president, Karen Kight, conducted the meeting.
The following reports were given: retirement law update by Roland Sander, legislative update by Frances Dooley, professional rights and responsibility by Lou Lintner, and salary and welfare by Marilyn Jansen. Building representatives also gave brief news reports.
Esther Gray, school nurse, had a report on the Jackson Children's Fund. The fund receives donations from the United Way. Gray said, "The Children's Fund helps keep needy children physically and emotionally healthy to do classwork. It provides medical and dental needs, clothing, shoes, personal items and even school supplies."
Car LaRue, chiarman of the public relations committee, recommended a chili supper fund-raiser to be held on Nov. 6 at the Jackson High School cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. This date coincides with the last home football game. Proceeds will be divided between the Children's Fund and the Jackson Senior Citizens' Center. Teachers voted to support the project.
Election of Missouri State Teachers Association delegates to the Kansas City convention on Nov. 5-6 took place at the end of the meeting. Mike Webb, Sherron Alexander and Karen Kight were elected to attend the convention.
