MARBLE HILL -- Linda Haynie Price wants her students to be informed citizens, so she offers them a new word, quote and news tidbit every day.
Price teaches history, geography and current issues classes at Woodland High School.
"After the class, they may never again remember the details of a particular event," she said, "but perhaps they will remember the basics of history, recognize geographical locations and have an interest in being an informed member of society."
"It has been my experience that if you expect a great deal from students, they will deliver more than they ever thought possible," she added.
Price has been teaching for 22 years. "I have always loved school from the very first day," she said. "By the time that I reached my senior year, I never had any doubt that eventually I would have my own classroom."
And with her own classroom, Price has been teaching more than just history and geography -- she's also helped students develop a taste for classical music.
"A few years ago, I introduced the use of classical music during classroom study time and testing. I think it has a calming effect and a few of the students actually seem to have acquired an appreciation for some of it," she said.
Price also has an appreciation for things old. She collects old costume jewelry, paperweights and glassware. Another hobby is crafting angels and Old World Santas.
Price earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Southeast Missouri State University. She and her husband, John, have one daughter.
