At the expense of TCI Cable, Cape Girardeau School District Technology Coordinator Kimberly Gwen will travel to Littleton, Colo., to learn how to tap into the future of cable in the classroom.
"We have been committed to using new computer technologies to teach cable in the classroom for some time," TCI Marketing Manager Todd Runkwitz said. "The program we set up will allow us to send Kimberly Gwen to Littleton for three days to accomplish this."
TCI raised $3,195 for the project. Gwen's trip will cost $2,000. The remaining $1,195 will be used to purchase televisions and VCRs for the Cape Girardeau School District.
For every cable television installed between Aug. 31 and Oct. 20, TCI donated a portion of the money to the cable-in-the-classroom project.
Gwen will depart June 4 for a 3-day seminar at the J.C. Sparkman Center in Littleton.
"I will be showing teachers in the Cape Public School District what I learned during the following school year," Gwen said.
"We want our teachers to know what is available to schools through cable television," TCI General Manager Roger Harms said. "We feel this is a worthwhile enough project to cover the cost of it."
