Teacher acquitted in assault may get license back

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- A former Springfield high school teacher who was acquitted of assaulting a female student has reached a tentative deal that could allow him back into teaching.

Jeremy Anderson, who taught at Glendale High School, was acquitted in March of assault charges after a 15-year-old student filed a complaint.

Anderson resigned after the allegations were made and, despite his acquittal, the state has been trying to take his teaching license.

A state hearing on whether Anderson should lose his teaching license was canceled Thursday. His attorney, Dee Wampler, says a tentative deal was reached with the Missouri Attorney General.

Under the agreement, Anderson would surrender his license for two more years and take ethics and sensitivity courses.

Attorney General Chris Koster's office said no deal was final and that any settlement would have to be approved by state education officials.
