The local cable television system will raise money for the Cape Girardeau and Jackson school districts.
Customers who sign up for cable or add to their service with TCI of Cape Girardeau and Jackson during the month of September will receive a lower-priced installation. The company will donate up to $5 for each installation to the school districts.
The local cable system is part of the nation's largest cable television company. TCI serves 11.7 million U.S. households in 49 states and has operations in several foreign countries.
This marks the second year for the TCI campaign. Last fall, more than $4,000 was raised in the local area. One local teacher attended TCI's J.C. Sparkman Center for Educational Technology.
The center is one of the leading technology education facilities in the United States.
Nationwide, TCI raised more than $1.4 million, sending more than 400 teachers and educators to the center.
The local TCI general manager, Roger Harms, said, "We have enjoyed a long-standing partnership with the Cape and Jackson school districts. This promotion builds on that partnership."
He said, "While teachers are eager to embrace new communications technology, access is often limited because of budgets and resources availability. TCI helps in providing that access."
TCI of Cape and Jackson serves more than 14,500 customers. Through the TCI Education Project, more than 20 public schools in the area have received free cable service and access to commercial-free educational programs.
