STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- A man arrested with a gun in his luggage as he boarded a plane Aug. 29 was released from custody on Monday, and prosecutors admitted they so far did not have evidence that he intended to hijack the flight.

Kerim Chatty, 29, had been held four weeks on suspicion of planning a hijacking and illegal possession of a weapon while chief prosecutor Thomas Haeggstroem prepared charges.

Haeggstroem said he had not ruled out the hijacking charge but decided there wasn't sufficient evidence to keep Chatty jailed during the investigation.

The prosecutor imposed a travel ban on Chatty and ordered him to report to police daily for the next month.
