SWAN GAINS CERTIFICATION FROM BOARD

Kathy Swan, a member of the Cape Girardeau Board of Education, recently achieved certification through the Missouri School Boards Association's certified board member program.

Swan is among 30 school board members from districts throughout the state who achieved the certification. She is the only member of the Cape Girardeau board to achieve the certification.

School board members can achieve certification in two ways: completing 30 hours of education programs at MSBA workshops and seminars or by taking an exam.

Both methods require board members to be knowledgeable in areas including school finance, school law, personnel, policy-making, goal-setting, communications, curriculum, facilities, students services.
