A man involved in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday that injured a Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School student has been issued several summonses but faces no criminal charges.
Adam J. Mouser, 23, of Cape Girardeau was issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident, having no insurance and driving with a suspended license, Cpl. Darin Hickey of the Cape Girardeau Police Department said.
Hickey said the student's injuries did not fit the legal requirements for an arrest.
The girl was walking across Independence Street from Amerimart to the school when she was struck by a green hatchback and landed on the sidewalk on the north side of the road, Cape Girardeau Police Department patrolman David Valentine said at the scene.
The vehicle was found later that afternoon at an apartment complex at 45 S. West End Blvd, in Cape Girardeau.
The junior high school student was released from the hospital.
She "was treated and released," Hickey said. "It looked a lot worse than the injuries that she had."
Hickey said Mouser is expected to appear in court in about a month.
It was the second time a child was struck by a vehicle in Cape Girardeau in less than a week.
A girl was injured May 15 on North Street when she ran out in front of a car, the driver of which did not see her behind a parked van.
She was taken to a hospital and later transported to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis for treatment of an injury that was not considered life-threatening, Valentine said.
