A Florissant, Missouri, man was arrested in Cape Girardeau after he assaulted a female Southeast Missouri State University student on campus, police said.
Southeast police officers arrested Xavier Lavelle Spann, 18, on Monday.
Spann is not a Southeast student, police Lt. Creighton Gould said.
The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s office charged Spann with second-degree domestic assault.
Spann’s bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.
The victim said Spann was her boyfriend, and they had been arguing Monday in Myers Hall, according to a probable-cause statement filed in the case by Southeast officer William Sammut.
When the victim tried to leave and go to her dorm room, Spann grabbed her arms, slapped her in the face and punched her in the stomach, Sammut wrote.
Sammut observed swelling and a laceration on the victim’s upper lip, according to the statement. The victim also complained of stomach pain, Sammut said.
The victim declined emergency medical services but requested counseling services at the scene, according to the statement.
Officers took a statement from a male witness who saw the incident in the hallway, Sammut wrote.
Spann was apprehended on a Greyhound bus before leaving Cape Girardeau, according to the statement.
