Suspect pleads not guilty in Cape bar burglaries

A Cape Girardeau man accused of burglarizing local businesses and homes late last year pleaded not guilty in circuit court.

Scott W. Pierce, 30, faces counts of second-degree burglary and felony theft in connection with the break-ins of two Cape Girardeau bars and two homes in the county. Pierce on Monday entered his plea of not guilty before Judge Benjamin Lewis, who set Pierce's next court date for Feb. 11. Pierce was charged in December with the burglaries of Rhymer's on the Plaza, 10 S. Plaza Way; Whiskey River, 1444 Independence St., and in residential burglaries on Kelley Court and Oakshire Circle.

Pierce, who is being represented in court by Pat Davis, remains in the custody of the Cape Girardeau County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash-only bond.
