POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The suspect in a drive-by shooting that injured a Poplar Bluff man was captured Thursday and was being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
Duanne Anthony Winters, 26, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at a home on Route T, said Poplar Bluff Police Department chief Danny Whiteley.
Winters was booked at the Butler County jail on suspicion of first-degree assault with a gun resulting in serious physical injury. He is also charged with a parole violation and failure to appear on assault charges.
Latez A. Kellum, 21, was shot in the arm around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday as he walked in the 900 block of Fairmount Street. The shot was fired from a passing vehicle.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined, Whiteley said.
After learning of Winters' location, Poplar Bluff officers contacted Butler County Sheriff's Department deputies Mike Tinker and Brian Kearbey for assistance.
"We contacted the residents of the home and made entry," Whiteley said. "We found Winters hiding in a rear bedroom and arrested him without incident."
Ammunition and suspected narcotics were found in the bedroom and will be sent to the crime lab for analysis, he said. The bullet from the shooting has also been sent to the crime lab. The type of gun used has not been determined and no gun had been recovered Friday.
Police are also still investigating reports that other people were in the vehicle when the shot was fired.
Kellum was treated at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and has since been released.
