Suspect in Missouri death arrested in Texas

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A man sought by the Greene County sheriff for a fatal shooting in June faces extradition from Texas after he was arrested Wednesday in McAllen on immigration-related charges, authorities said. Alvaro Molina, 21, is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action for the June 9 shooting death of Francisco Javier Gaspar, 20. Molina was arrested in McAllen after a traffic stop during which authorities found six illegal immigrants from Mexico in his vehicle.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office is seeking Molina's extradition.

Molina's fingerprints tipped agents off to a warrant in Missouri for murder, said Roy Cervantes, a spokesman with the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector.

A probable-cause statement filed in the murder case said Molina accompanied Gaspar's estranged girlfriend, Tiffany Rice, to a duplex where Gaspar was staying. Rice wanted to pick up some of her belongings, the documents said.

After an argument outside, Molina allegedly drew a handgun and fired at the residence.

Gaspar fled inside. Molina kicked down the door and fired two more shots, striking Gaspar once in the chest, according to the probable-cause statement.

Gaspar died a short time later after being taken to St. John's Hospital.

Bond has been recommended at $500,000 for Molina.
