Cape Girardeau Police believe they know who tried to pry open an ATM last week on William Street, a police spokesman reported Tuesday.

Sgt. Jason Selzer said police have identified a suspect in connection with a Nov. 21 attempt to pry open an ATM at U.S. Bank, 3060 William St.

The man is not in custody, and officers still are investigating, Selzer said in an email message to local media outlets.

On Monday, Selzer reported the man was unable to open the ATM but caused extensive damage to the machine.

Anyone with information about the suspect or his whereabouts was asked to call Cape Girardeau police at 335-6621.
