A Cape Girardeau man was in custody after an alleged assault Monday night.
A 50-year-old man, also of Cape Girardeau, arrived about 10 a.m. Tuesday at police headquarters with a large laceration on the side of his neck, Sgt. Adam Glueck of the Cape Girardeau Police Department wrote in an email.
The man told police the injury had occurred the night before while he was with his girlfriend and one of her relatives, Steven Raymond Eveland, at Eveland's home at 121 S. Benton St. in Cape Girardeau, Glueck wrote.
The victim said Eveland slashed him across the neck with a knife. Medical personnel transported the victim to a hospital, where he was admitted, according to Glueck.
Police found Eveland on Wednesday and arrested him at 11:05 a.m., Glueck wrote. He has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action, both felonies, online court records show.
Eveland remains in custody at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond. His arraignment is set for Monday.
