A suspect is in custody after allegedly striking a young woman in the head with a baseball bat in Cape Girardeau.

It happened Saturday afternoon in the 500 block of South Benton Street, according to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The 18-year-old woman was conscious and responsive when emergency professionals arrived but complained of head pain and dizziness, said Cape Girardeau police Sgt. Adam Glueck. She was taken to a hospital.
