The first survey by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education was conducted in spring 2007. But the results were just released this week.

More than 3,100 first-year teachers responded to the online survey that was intended to gauge the preparation that teachers received in college.

Seventy-two percent said they felt well prepared to teach their subjects. But just 63 percent said they were well prepared to use technology as part of their teaching.

The department plans to survey this year's new teachers from April 21 to May 9.
