Sunday stabbing

A 21-year-old Cape Girardeau woman was stabbed Sunday during an argument that turned violent on the 110 block of Bloomfield Road, police said Tuesday.

Cape Girardeau police received a call at about 6:28 p.m. that about 20 people were watching an argument on the street.

By the time police arrived at the scene, the victim had been transported by private vehicle to Southeast Missouri Hospital with a four-inch long cut on the left side of her torso, Sgt. Barry Hovis said. She was treated and released the same day.

Hovis said witnesses at the scene told police an argument ensued between five or six people over children throwing rocks or bottles at a neighborhood dog.

During the argument there was pushing and shoving and someone was reportedly struck, Hovis said. At that point a 15-year-old girl reportedly pulled a knife and began waving it around, and attempted to strike another person. She missed her target and ended up cutting the victim, Hovis said.

The girl was cited into juvenile court on suspicion of assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
